1. Applying Winter Wellness Fertiliser
Proper fertilisation is essential for ensuring your grass receives the nutrients it needs to survive.
Winter can be a particularly tough time for your lawn, with its sub-zero temperatures and pests waiting to take advantage of vulnerable grass.
Fertilising your lawn correctly can help your lawn withstand this stress and remain resilient.
Here is how you should fertilise your lawn:
- Clear your lawn. Make sure your lawn is clear of any debris, rocks, or leaves before you begin
- Make sure it’s dry. Always use fertiliser on dry grass to make sure it is absorbed effectively. Wet conditions can cause the fertiliser to wash away or result in some areas receiving too much
- Use a spreader. To ensure even application, you may want to consider using a drop or broadcast spreader to apply your fertiliser
- Apply in a criss-cross pattern. For even coverage, apply half the fertiliser while walking north to south and the remaining half while walking east to west. Following this pattern prevents areas from being missed or over-application
- Follow the application rate. Avoid over-fertilising your lawn by following the recommended guidelines. Our Winter Wellness blend has an application rate of 35g-50g
- Avoid adding to stressed lawns. We do not recommend adding fertiliser to a stressed lawn, as this can cause unnecessary damage and create a larger problem
- Remove the excess. Following applications, you should sweep up any excess granules from patios, paths, and driveways to prevent staining and runoff into other areas
2. Watering after fertilising
Once you have applied your Winter Wellness Fertiliser, it’s time to make sure it is activated.
Watering is a vital part of the fertilisation process, as it helps the granules dissolve and absorb into the soil.
To do this, you need to:
- Water immediately. Ideally, you want to water your lawn immediately after fertilising so it can get to work and start releasing the vital nutrients your lawn needs
- Irrigate if needed. If no rain falls within 48 hours, you will need to irrigate the lawn thoroughly to ensure that the fertiliser has been adequately absorbed, maximising its effectiveness.
3. How often should I apply Winter Wellness Fertiliser?
To keep your lawn vibrant and healthy throughout the year, you may want to consider following a consistent fertilisation schedule.
Not only can this help you remember to feed your lawn, but it can also remind you to change your fertiliser to suit the season.
Here are our tips for applying our Winter Wellness Fertiliser:
- 6-8 week rule. For consistent lawn health, you should be applying it every 6 to 8 weeks from late spring to early autumn
- Avoid over-applying. Too much fertiliser can significantly damage your grass by supplying too much of certain nutrients or scorching your lawn
Don’t leave your lawn out in the cold this winter and protect it with our Winter Wellness Fertiliser.
